Grand Forks Running Presents, the SUMMER SOLE Weekend

We are very excited to share our new race lineup for 2021 and beyond! Starting in August 2021, Grand Forks Running [formerly Grand Forks Marathon] will be presenting the inaugural Summer Sole weekend. Start your Friday night off right with a 5K and [optional] course detours that include super fun summer-themed obstacles. Then come back Saturday morning for the inaugural SDR 10 Mile or the SMG 10K.

This entire weekend of events will be full of fun and a great way to celebrate having in-person running events again!

1st Annual Summer Sole Weekend Schedule:

Friday, August 27th

11AM to 5PM – In-Person Registration and Race Packet Pick-Up downtown at Town Square, 215 Demers Ave., Grand Forks, ND.*

6PM – Beach Party 5K and obstacle challenge

The 5K event is perfect for the competitor or “Just for Fun” athlete and includes fun summer-themed obstacles for participants to enjoy. Bring the whole family as this promises to be one amazing “Beach Party” on the banks of the Red River of the North. The SWAG will be a lot of fun, too!

*In event of rain, packet pick-up will be held at See Dick Run, 28 S 3rd St, Grand Forks, ND.

Saturday, August 28th

6AM to 6:30AM – Limited Packet Pick-Up downtown at Town Square, 215 Demers Ave., Grand Forks, ND.

7:00AM – Inaugural See Dick Run 10 Mile

7:00AM – Stray Media Group 10K

Both events will start and finish in downtown Grand Forks with a tour of some beautiful areas of Grand Forks, including the magnificent University of North Dakota campus. The last four miles of the inaugural 10 mile will utilize the incredibly scenic Greenway, the perfect way to get into double digits on a run. We are so excited to share the fabulous SWAG for these races!

Special Weekend Events

Stay up to date with the latest on our Facebook page for exciting reveals coming soon regarding special events that our fabulous downtown businesses will be putting on to celebrate our participants!

Tear off the free ticket from your race bib and bring it to Half Brothers Brewing on Friday night or Saturday afternoon to try their delicious special limited release “Summer Sole” Session India Pale Ale with electrolytes or your choice of soda! You can also enjoy this specialty brew while it lasts as you participate in the pub crawl, and plan on spending some time exploring downtown businesses, the Farmer’s Market, and great establishments on both sides of the river.

But wait, there is more! While the much loved “Wild Hog” is no longer, the events surrounding its name remain, albeit newly reimagined and relocated on the calendar.

Introducing the “Spring Thaw” [formerly the September Wild Hog] – April 28-30, 2022

Moved from late fall to spring so you have your favorite local run to start off your season! Start planning your training for the April 28-30, 2022 weekend and register now for the next Half Marathon, Relay, 10K, 5K and Family Fun Run events.

Grand Forks Running is looking forward to these two complimentary events continuing annually in both the summer and the spring for some of the best hospitality, scenery, and SWAG around!

For those who had deferred their 2020 registration, just a reminder that you have the following options:

  1. Credit towards the 2021 &/or 2022 events. For some, the amount paid previously exceeds the registration fees for the 2021 event. In that case, we will track your balance and provide you with discounts until that amount paid has been used up.
  2. Continued deferral to 2022. We know that the August date may not work for some and want to give the option to defer to 2022 as well. This could be for the April or August 2022 event (or both, should you have additional credits available).
  3. Donation towards the four charities we support. If you would prefer not to defer to either event, you are welcome to direct us to transfer your deferral credits to the local charities we support. These charities took a significant financial hit in 2020, as you can imagine, so we know that they will appreciate this option, should you select it.

We always welcome your input and ideas on how to make this an amazing event for our participants, so please let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

Happy Running,

Rachel, for the GF Running Team
